We got in to Paris early in the morning. We took the direct flight from Salt Lake and woke up hours later ready to have an adventure of a lifetime. We took the metro into town and checked into our hotel. After that we headed to the Sacre Coeur Basilica. It is a beautiful church overlooking the city and is also known as the Sacred Heart church. It was a workout with all the walking and steps and a plus because it was a beautiful clear day. On our way we got some sparkling water (oops) and eric tried his first pastry. We enjoyed walking around, people watching, and taking a nap on the grass along with many others.
After that we got our first nutella/banana crepe and took the metro downtown to the Arc de Triomphe and walked the Champs Elysees. I had forgotten how magnificent the Arc was (164 ft tall). It's so large and there are probably 5 lanes of cars surrounding it. We walked underground and came up underneath the Arc. We looked at the depictions of soldiers who had fought during the French Revolution. There is a tomb of the unknown soldier there which is very neat for those who were never discovered.
Then we were onto the fanciest street of shops...:) We loved seeing so many names and gorgeous window displays. One of my favorite stores was Swarovski. They had a beautiful crystal staircase and our photo does NOT do it justice. We had some yummy dinner and headed back to our hotel for some much needed sleep!
